History

- The Association of Football Clubs of Macedonia - Thrace was founded in 1924, while its work had already begun in 1923 and was called P.E.M.T.

In 1929 it took its current name.

- Its founding members were the clubs ARIS, IRAKLIS and MEGAS ALEXANDROS, which were also the ones that took part in the first championship (April - May 1924, champion ARIS), although there were other active clubs at the time, but which for various reasons were unable to take part in the championship. By 1939, the three "big ones", ARIS, IRAKLIS, PAOK, acquired their own stadium.

- In 1926, the Football Associations of Macedonia, Athens and Piraeus founded the Hellenic Football Federation (E.P.O.), also receiving the approval of S.E.G.A.S. and thus football became independent from the other sports.

- The first General Assembly was held in December 1924, when its statutes were voted and the first board of directors was elected with the following composition:
- President: G.Sotiriadis
- Vice President: Afentakis
- Secretary General: A.Michailidis
- Treasurer: K.Kastritsis
- Treasurer: G.Tsakalos
- Advisors: G.Karras and An.Nikolaidis

- Since 1935, the current E.P.S. Macedonia, was limited to the limits of the prefecture of Thessaloniki, since it now had the bases for the spread of football throughout Northern Greece and beyond.

- Due to World War II and the historical events that followed, no championships were organized from 1940 to 1946. From 1967 to 1974, no elections were held, but the members of the administration were appointed by the military regime. After the change of government, Mr. Economopoulos was appointed President until 21.6.1976, when elections were held.

- Despite the fact that its competence in organizing football matches today extends only to the borders of our prefecture, the preservation of its name (Association of Football Clubs of Macedonia) to this day demonstrates the historical role it played in the spread of football, but also in the subsequent development of the sport and, above all, in the recognition of its contribution by the entire world of football today.

- Since its foundation, a total of 308 clubs have been recognized and participated in the E.P.S.M. championships.

- In the E.P.S.M. championships A total of 238 teams participate (56 teams in the A' amateur category, 80 in the B' and 102 in the C'), while in the 15th consecutive organization of its children's championships (based on the statistics of the 1998-99 season), which were inaugurated for the first time in Greece in the 1984-1985 season, approximately 350 teams participate. Also, the veteran football players' championship will be organized for the 5th consecutive year.

- The work of the E.P.S. Macedonia is recognized by all institutions, state and private. The continuous undertaking of international competitions at the U.E.F.A and F.I.F.A. level, the course of its competitive teams nationwide and internationally and the continuous coverage by the M.M.E. of every organization it undertakes, whether on its own initiative or after being assigned by the Hellenic Football Federation or in collaboration with other bodies, clearly demonstrates the recognition of its work.
